Climate Change Mitigation Fund

Thank You for Making a Difference!
We’re deeply grateful for your continued support. Thanks to you, small-scale producers and their families in Chiapas, Mexico, are taking meaningful action against climate change through community-led projects they believe in.
For every pound of coffee we purchase from our partners in Chiapas, we contribute an additional 10¢ to a dedicated Climate Change Mitigation Fund for each cooperative — helping them invest in sustainability, resilience, and the future of their communities.
We started the fund in 2019, and this year's crop brought the total to over $310,000. As a company committed to environmental causes, we intend to continue this fund for all of our coffee purchases going forward. Our hope is to be a resource for small parcel farmers and provide them with more opportunities to implement solutions that will work for them in a rapidly changing climate. Climate change is a global problem that needs global participation and teamwork to be addressed.
We couldn’t do it without you!
Here are some of the very cool things the coops are doing with these funds.
Finca Triunfo Verde implemented renewable technologies, including solar-powered coffee pulpers, to reduce climate change impacts and reliance on fossil fuels and grid electricity. This initiative lowers greenhouse gas emissions, conserves energy and water, and improves living conditions for small producers while supporting a more sustainable coffee supply chain.
CESMACH is aligning with the EU Anti-Deforestation Regulation by advancing initiatives like georeferencing coffee plots for full traceability and developing a management plan to improve production processes and reduce climate impact. Additionally, they are redesigning two Café CESMACH products for the national market to ensure full compliance with zero-deforestation principles.
Majomut purchased land to establish a demonstration school that hosts meteorological stations, collects climate data, and supports training in disease control and plant nutrition using on-site compost to guide climate adaptation strategies. Funded by climate change mitigation efforts, the project also produced and translated educational materials into Tsotsil and Tseltal, the indigenous languages of the cooperative’s members.
The Union of Ejidos and Comunidades San Fernando is implementing a 3-year climate adaptation plan, supported by our Climate Mitigation Fund and an NGO, to help 817 families improve coffee farm management in response to climate change. So far, 40% of farms have maintained productivity and income, while the project has established a seed bank and a plant nursery and promoted natural farming methods to boost crop resilience.
ISMAM established in-farm nurseries, and high-quality coffee varietal seedlings were made available to small-scale producers. Additionally, they were able to purchase native shade and fruit trees to diversify and enrich their small plots.
